Default Question for Jim

Hi Jim,

Can i run the set up 215-40-18 18x8 +49 front and 255-35-18 18x9 +62 rear ?I know 225-40-18 is the ideal for the front but i i just want to be safe, i dont want any rubbing issue. The front is 18x8 +49.Is this set up ok?Im lowered 1inch.TIA

front will probably be fine but rear with 18x8 49+ with 255-35 will probably rub so try sticking with 245 instead....also your tire selection will also determine if you rub or not....

You are correct. 255 tire will be fine with that +62 rear. I would go 225/35/18 front tires. 215 on a 8 inch wide rim will look totally stretched. I had it on my 18x7.5 and it was too stretched. Your safer to run a 225/35/18 or the recommended 225/40/18, keep in mind you will feel the road with 35 series tires..

The 225/35R18 is not a good size to go with. It can even throw off the anti lock brakes. Just go with the 215/40R18 or the 225/40R18 front and 245/35R18 or 255/35R18 rear.
You actually should be fine with any of these size tires.
If I can help with the tires let me know.

JsAP1, people have reported several times that they rub with a 48 offset and a 225 tire on the front.

So how can we recommend it to people unless we qualify it by saying "You may rub unless you use additional camber or modify the fender."?

I'm not trying to say that you're wrong, because clearly some people have issues, and some don't. But I think rubbing is a big deal to the average guy, so I find it hard to recommend those setups to people. What's your take on this?

I agree but the guy is only lowering his car 1 inch which is nothing IMO and cant see him rubbing with a 3-4 finger gap, can you? Just doesnt make sense to me. Am I missing something here? I had these exact offsets and tiresizes and had no problem with OEM fenders so how can the next guy, unless his car has been in an accident? I dont know.

If he goes lower than 1.0 inch drop then he will run the chance of rubbing, again thats a chance, dependant on his road conditions and the brand of tires he uses. All tires are different regardless if they are the same size.

So for the average Joe with a 1 inch drop he can run a 225 front tire with that 18x8 +49 front and not rub. If he chooses to go lower than that, then he may/will rub. Have you seen a 215 tire on a 8 inch wide wheel? Its stretched and he has more chances of damaging/bending his wheels than rubbing.

If this were me I would go 225/35/18 OR 225/40/18 fronts and 255/35/18 rears with a 00 upto a 1 inch drop. If it were a 18x7.5 then yeah I would recommend a 215 tire but its an 8 inch wide wheel. Maybe I am wrong, I dont know..
