Default A querry for tirerack Jim.....

Hi Jim.....sorry to be a bother, but since I am going to purchase my tires from Tirerack, I quess I don't feel so guilty. The other day you replied to my question about replacing my RE050's with RE01r's and the fact that I would like to run 255/40r17's on the rear with OEM 215/45r17's up front. I just want to get this right....did you mean that the stagger would be close to stock with 215's in front, or with 225's in front? And another important question......should I even change tire size, or be better off with factory size? Will the S handle better or worse with the bigger size in the rear? What do most guys do? I'm going to be needing tires soon, but I am kind of confused about what to do. I'd like to have a little wider tire in back (I don't know about the front) but if it screws up the performance of the car, then I guess it's not such a good idea. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much........S2kGigolo.

The stock stagger is 2.3", since the front has a tread width of 6.7", rear has 9.0".

With the RE-01R's, a 255 rear has a 9.4 tread width. A 215 front has a 8.0" tread, where the 225 has 8.3".

Either way, you will have less stagger than stock.

If you want to look at tire data, find the specific tire model on the Tirerack website, and click on the "Specs" tab near the top.

yea the important thing is to compare tread width, not the tire size. different tire models have different tread widths for a given tire size.

UHHH.... Stagger is the difference in circumfrence of 2 tires, not the difference in width
