Because to me "halo" means top notch/best.

First of: These are not Bridgestone's halo tires. That would be the RE-11.
How is that determined? I did not see anything on Bridgestone or TireRack's site to say the RE-11 is better or halo tire over the S04...
The re11 is in an entirely different performance category and is a superior tire in terms of raw performance. The S04 is a performance tire aimed at people who prioritize comfort and low road noise. The RE11, although still a comfortable and civilized street tire, is a more aggressive street tire aimed at people who enjoy really throwing their cars around on mountain roads and the track. Its sacrifices a marginal amount of comfort and noise for more performance and better feel.

Exactly! So when you hear the word "halo" tires use for a performance sport car one would assume it's referring to "raw performance", people who enjoys aggressive driving, tracking....etc.

Again. In my opinion and I think most would agreed. Road noise and ride comfort isn't something I would prioritize over traction and sidewall feedback when I'm looking for a "halo" tires from a specific manufacture.

The S04 is a more rounded performance tire. They will wear better and have better wet traction. The RE-11 is almost a track tire for the street. It all depends on your priorities as to which is a better for the driver. Not everyone wants the all out best dry handling tire.
If I can help let me know.

For sure I need wet weather handling and I thought the S0* were known for their wet traction.

I think you'll be satisfy/happy with the S04. Good on wet. Obviously, it's not a winter/all season tires so as long as you pace yourself it shouldn't be a problem.

I just bought 2 for my 2005 AP2. The factory tires were worn out at 20,000 miles. The S-04s have better grip, but I don't think it's fair to compare them to tires several years old and well worn. They do seem quieter too ... and I hope they wear better.

Has there been a replacement model launched? Is that their current tire?

The RE-11A is more of a track tire for the street. The S04 will have better wet traction, tread life and ride quality. They are different tires with different focus. The S04 is still the flag ship tire for Bridgestone.
Bridgestone has dropped the prices on all of the tires. They are very close performance to the Michelin Super Sport with a much better price. If I can help let me know.
