i have always been a fan of the patch/plugs more than anything, but id run a plug over a patch any day...

I used to use Patch/Plugs but anymore now I just use the generic standard "gas station" rope plugs that anyone can do at home. Why? Because you don't have to dismount/re-mount and balance the tire again. Hell, I don't even have to take it off the car! The less chances I can have to tear a tire bead or scratch one of my wheels the better. If it leaks I'll re-plug it with the kit I keep in the trunk since I have no spare.

If the puncture was in a rain channel I have no issues running a rope plug. If it's on the actual tread I'd do a plug patch. As far as normal patches I really hate them.

One thing that hasn't been asked is where was the tire punctured? If it is in the sidewall away from the steel cord then you are best to replace the tire to be safe.
