Also, since the car car above is mine, I can tell you that this tire/wheel set-up does not rub at all. Even during a recent AutoX!

KIDS2000,
The below dimensions are good to go if you don't slam the car...
17x7 +45 mm, 215/45/17
17x8 +45 mm, 245/40/17
Good job with the research on the red S2000 with similar specs.

Overall, even though the setup I mentioned above won't rub when the car isn't lowered, but don't you want the option to lower the car in the future?
I recommend 17's with specifications close to the mugen setup.
17x7.5 +52mm
17x8.5 +59mm

I got the refund from the Salesperson! This has become all too scary for me... so I've decided to go with the SSR GT1
17x7 +48 with 225/45/17
17x8 +50 with 235/40/17
Amazing what a difference of 5mm of offset makes...for it made me decide to get my 2nd choice wheels over the favourite...

In my opinion, those tire sizes do not have enough front/rear stagger. Rear tires should be ~25% wider than the fronts (like the stock SO-2's).
Maybe you should move on to your third choice

Good choice on the change bud.
But why are you using those tire sizes? Your overall diameter is off...the car will appear to be higher in front. You also want to make the rear tires alot wider than the front tires.
225/45/17 (25 inch diameter)
235/40/17 (24.5 inch diameter)
Try these sizes!
215/45/17 (24.6)
245/40/17 (24.8)

The best sizes for tires would be either 205/50R17 or 225/45R17 front and either 245/40R17 or 255/40R17 on the rear.
Let me know if I can help.
Thank you
