Default Painting rims, question about the type of paint

I want to paint my stock ap1 rims and im looking for a nice bronze/gold color like this one.

Do you guys know about a wheel paint that looks like this?

This paint looks pretty similar but I was wondering if I could use it on my rims and how would it be different from wheel paint?

Duplicolor Wheel Paint HWP105 - Bronze

If you use a white-base/primer, you'll get a nice gold/light bronze shade.

I've used this many times. Great product/color.

Thats a good idea, since I think the color by itself is a little too dark. Do you have any pics so I could see what it looks like before I try it?

How does the Duplicolor hold up to tire mounting? Even though a lot of shops use a "touchless" machine, I heard just the tire bead going on and off the rim can take off paint. Thanks for the pics BTW, saves me some testing.

My current wheels are powdercoated black, and a "touchless" machine still was able to take off some very small pieces of paint along the rim.

With that being said, it really depends on your prep work. You need to use a self-etching primer, and enough layers of paint and clear. Also, allowing the paint to really cure before mounting is important to ensure its longevity. If you are painting the wheels with the tires mounted, more than likely, there won't be enough paint coverage along the rim, and a "touchless" machine has a better chance of taking some paint with it. Best bet is to spray while the tire is off, so you can really get enough primer and paint along the rim.

All things aside, Duplicolor paint has held up great on my previous DDs for 5+ years.

Do you have a specific brand of white primer or a link to where you buy it if you buy online? Those rims look great.

ANY white primer will do. Typically, automotive primer works good. I recommend self-etching primer first, which is green. Then apply automotive primer, then the Duplicolor WHEEL paint. Finish off with a gloss of some sort.
