It's also 10 years old and can purchased for under $10k if you look hard enough, and those AP1 wheels can be picked up dirt cheap. Then again, this is coming from someone who recently spray painted their wheels.

the wheels are clean its a waste to paint them. just save up for some coilovers/springs get a ap1 lip and your fire. plain and simple.
black wheels makes the car more dirty IMO.

jeez people, don't listen to anyone just do what you want. I painted mine black when I had my AP2V1s because I like black wheels, if you do it right the paint will stick. I am currently re-finishing another set of wheels and have put 7+ hours already and I am not done.
If you want to do it right you should wash the wheels, strip all the paint (takes several coats of paint stripper), sand any chips/curb rash in the wheels, wash again or degrease them, then add primer, paint them, and lastly clear coat.

To each his own I suppose, but while your at it, get a cool decal like they had in fast and furious, the more of it that covers the car, the better...
So does that make sense as well, F no it doesn't. If you are just changing the rim color because you are tired of looking at the same rim, or just want to "spice" things up, then just drop the car a few inches with springs, or get a lip like an above member posted. Or do performance mods, intake, header, exhaust. And if you have to get rims, then buy some rota's, or some another inexpensive rim.

Used powder coated AP1's can be found pretty cheaply. I have my summer/autox tires on a set of black AP1's that I bought for $150.
YMMV..
Also, to those saying this is a stupid idea, drop it first, etc.. There are legit reasons to stick with what you've got. If I changed springs or wheels, I could no longer run AS autox. So I got powder coated AP1's just to look a little less stock. With unpainted (silver) centercaps, I think it looks really good.

wow so I didn't expect to see so many people for AND against painting them. I thought I would get a majority of people that preferred either one or the other, but in this case the line seems to be drawn right down the middle lol. Hmm this is still tough, I'm not sure what to do... does anyone even want to buy used AP1 rims anymore? I mean I guess if I could sell them then I would think about just buying a set of inexpensive rims....

if you like them black then find someone that paint them already. leave your ap1's alone just in case you get rid of the car.
if you were in florida ill probably sell you mines. i hate them. but i only use them when the cars in the shop
