will OEM S02 (205/55/16 & 225/50/26) fits on 16x7 and 16x8 rims?

i currently have 215/50/16 & 245/45/16 and thinking about swaping tires with my OEM rims.

since the stock speedo and odo are calibrated for 16x6.5 and 16x7.5 with 205/55 & 225/50, stock size on different rims create differences in reading?

here are some samples.

these are the front tires. the one on the left is 215/50/16 on 16x7. the one on the right is OEM size 205/55/16 on 16x6.5. look how much taller the OEM is.


these are the rear tires. the one on the left is OEM size 225/50/26 on 16x7.5. the one of the right is 245/45/16 on 16x8. there is still a difference between the overall diameter, the they are much closer to the OEM size.


what the tire spec for 16x7 and 16x8 rims that will produce the overall diameter that's closest to OEM size?

The "width" of the wheel does not change the overall diameter of a tire. You're only increasing the width of the wheel by 1/2". The tire you plan to put on (OEM) will have the same overall diameter on those wheels. However, you may have to adjust the pressure slightly to make sure the same contact patch is maintained.
The reason why your "side by side" comparisons show the two tires having different heights is because the two tires have different tread widths AND different aspect ratios.
The only thing you need to worry about when putting the same tire on a different width of wheel is how badly the tire's bead and sidewall is pinched or pulled out. A 1/2" in your case is no big deal.

i guess i will run the tires until they got *nothing* left then swap the tires.

oh also, in the future, if i choose to go with a rear tire other S02, i should be going for 245/45 but not 225/50?

will 245/50 makes it better or worse?

Yes, 245/45 would be the closest in terms of width of rubber on the road compared to the OEM's. Your pic above shows you the differences. If you go with 225/50, you would have significantly LESS width of tread on the road and your handling would suffer accordingly.
A 245/50 will give you the same rubber on the road as the 245/45 but will be a bit taller (or bigger overall diameter). It won't "quite" match either but you're better off with a "shorter" tire as this will feel a bit "peppier" (like putting in a slightly higher ratio rear end gear).

i remember you posting something about the "yellowbox" or something that will correct speedo and odo error, but if the error is not too significant, then i won't have to go to all that lenght to get the "box"

 

I believe the stock car has a speedo error to begin with. It reads faster than what you are actually going. Having a slightly smaller diameter tire might give you an additional error of perhaps 1-2% (you'd be reading even faster than before). The Yellow Box costs about $100.00 US. With it, you can dial out all error. (Get paced by a police car or radar.) Your odometer will also register an accurate accumulation of miles. How important is this to you?
The average car, after showing 100,000 miles on the odo may, in fact, have only travelled less than 95,000 miles. If you want the Yellow Box, go here:

ps. Quite frankly, that little bit of difference in your tire diameter is not worth worrying about. I have the 4.44 rear gears, so I was out another 8%.

- what 16" wheels do you have?
- what is the offset for the 16 x 7"?
- what is the offset for the 16 x 8"?
- you are by chance looking to sell your OEM wheels are you?
