OEM S-02 vs Bridgestone RE-11
I've had the stock OEM S-02 tires on my 2003 S2000 a few times and had the Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R tires before they were discontinued. Aside from being inferior in dry performance (obviously), when compared to the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11, BOTH of these older tires seem to have worse tirewear, worse wet performance, and pretty much all worse subjective attributes as seen on Tirerack's website. Obviously, the RE-01R can't be purchased anymore, but if I was happy with the S-02 tires and the RE-01R tires, would I be missing anything with the RE-11 tires? To boot, the RE-11 tires are cheaper than the OEM S-02s.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have no experience with RE-01s, but the RE-11s are superior in wet AND dry grip to the S-02s, and last a surprisingly long time. The only downside is that they're noisy and very stiff (and they squeal quite loudly when pushed to their considerable limit).

squeal is a good thing

I ended up getting the RE-11s. I'd say the only thing the S-02 has against these better tires is that the S-02 rears look mean and aggressive, since the tread width is very close to the section width, making it nice and square.
