Default Non-staggered rims, staggered tires. Anyone doing it?

New to this forum. So I am sorry if this is in the wrong area!

Anyone doing a staggered tire setup on non-staggered rims?

I'm thinking of going 17x9 +42 all around with 225/45/17 in the front and 255/40/17 in the rear.

Also lowered but rolled all around. Any other modifications that I would need to do?

I'm doing it. 17x9 40 245 40 rear. 235 40 front.

Okay, I figured it would be a fine thing to do, I'm trying to accommodate some space for the front fenders, and keep the staggered setup. I currently have rota grids 17x9 +42 in the rear but 17x7.5 in the front and I hate the look of the flat fronts. I will probably order 2 wheels and tires this week.

Yes, it's not an uncommon thing as it makes the task of fitting the same wheels in the front much easier.

I'd much sooner go 235/40-17 on 9" wheels than 225/45-17. Max recommended wheel width for 225/45 is 8.5", they'd be a bit of a stretch on 9". This can accelerate inside treadwear rate if you have some camber. Also, though 235/40-17 would lose you 5mm of clearance on width it would *gain* you 7mm of clearance on diameter/radius. I.e., 235/40 might not be any more likely to rub than 225/45.
Drawback is the lack of tire selection vs. 225/45.
