[QUOTE=moogleii,May 18 2010, 02:52 PM] No vibration and tested up to 140 mph with no problems on a tire known to be loud (louder than bridgestones for sure). I'm still inclined to believe it's normal, especially on concrete (but, of course, I definitely could be wrong since I'm on the other side of the internets).

If you're in the 909 i think there's a several owners running star specs in socal that you can compare with. Or wait for the next speedventures event at ACS. Other than that, no idea, sorry.

I inspected the tires tonight and noticed that one tire had a lot of weight (both inside and outside of the rim). I was then looking at the opposite side of the tire from where the weights were and saw an area with what looked like worn melted rubber in the tread grooves.

I'm thinking that this is my bad tire...

Mine are not noisy. Sounds like something is wrong with it.

That probably is you bad tire, but also probably from not being balanced properly.

The noise is definitely not normal. This is evidenced by putting on different tires and the noise is gone. Also, several other Star Spec owners, including myself, don't have the noise.

Based on your description of a lot of weight used to balance (but remember, a lot of weights is not necessarily a lot of weight, the weights have different weights) and the "melted" part opposite of the weights, is sounds like the tire was hoping as your drove. I see this a lot with all the idiots on the So Cal freeways (oh no boss, just mount the tires, I don't have enough money for that balancing stuff).

Bring 'em back to where you got 'em.

Good luck.

Thanks guys..

I'm going to have Evasive Motorsports re balance all four tires... Upon inspection I found one front tire not even balanced! (although I noticed no vibration)

Running unbalanced tires at 140 mph is not good. That would be a do over for me. I wold not leave abused tires on any car I drive.
