I am on the fence on what size to order, I have 18X9.5 and between 255 and 265. If this were a normal tire I would get the 255 but all this talk about running thin is freaking me out. It would be a 35R profile. I want them just slightly stretched, no bulge for sure. Guys when you get your tires in please comment on the width! Thanks. And then tear them up on the track for a full report. Somebody in sunny warm Cally must have these mounted by now!?!?!?!?!?!
18x9.5 with no bulge, 255 for sure.

I can't decide if I should wait for the 285's for go down to a 265.
Which in Re-71r is like running a 245...

A 245-35-18 would match the 255-35-18 but they don't have that size. What size wheel are your fronts? You could run the 235-40-18 depending on your front width.

255/40/17 only weighs 24lbs?

Thats pretty light compared to past BridgeStone tires. I think RE11A in the same size weigh 27lbs.

My shipping label said 48lbs. I know tire rack ships a pair at a time. That's 24. If these are lighter and stickier than the re11a, I'm going to have a little more fun

You are not picking up what I am laying down...I have 18X9.5 square. If I was buying Star Specs or RS3s I would get 255s. With me so far? The RE-71r runs narrow, so a 265 in RE-71s is like 255 on any other tire. That is point that I am making. I am asking anyone who bought these so far if that is true. It was true with RE-11s, I ran 255 on 9s and it was perfect.

No I didn't get it but now I do. Honestly it sounds like you already know the answer. If they run small, get the 265, done deal.

I received 2 245/40/17s today. Quick check before work: my scale read 46.2 lbs for both and the tire is just a little over 9.5" wide overall. 255s arrive Friday.

The treadwear rating will be 200. We do have most of the sizes in stock now. If I can help let me know. If you order online click through the S2K web site and list Jim as a previous contact.
