Default need some help with a simple tire size

I have a set of 2004 ap2 wheels and was wondering if instead of 215 at the front i can go 225 with no rubbing what so ever. I am running oem suspension. I heard that 255 for the rear is good with no rubbing issues but didn't really find out for sure about the fronts.

Also if they do fit fine, will there be any mushrooming over the wheels b/c there to wide??

Could some one clear this up for me? thanks for any help

A lot of people run a 225/255 set up on stock height/wheels with no problem. IMO I think it actually looks better than stock tire sizing.

225/45 will fit up front without issue, but they will be mushroomed a bit, yes.

No rubbing at all, and I'm dropped 1 inch.
Here you go:
AP2V1 with 225/45 front and 255/40 rear.

thanks so much for that info; I feel better now knowing for sure. You dont think the little bit of mushrooming in the front will affect the performance of the tire while i track it, do you? or should i just stick with 215 in front and not have to have a little bit of mushrooming. I want to go bigger so i can track it but i dont want to compromise.
I might run toyo r1r or some falken rt615k's

Extreme Summer category tires run wider then something in a lessor category like max Summer or all season typically, so keep that in mind. The tires above I can tell are not very wide/telling of what you might see with say the z2 starspec in the same sizes. You will lose a little precision/feel in handing having a wider tire that is on a smaller width rim, but your grip will be increased and that usually is what people go for in track situations if they have to make that compromise. But a 215 z2 is probably as wide as a 225 max summer. RT615 Extreme summer was a good tire 5-6 years ago, a bit outdated now.

Track guys use 245 front and 255 rear, or 255 all around.

A technical bit: on the front, using the stock AP2V1 7J and ET 55 rims, you COULD go as wide as 235 without rubbing. However, 235 is way too much for 7J and is not recommended. The maximum you can go on front stock rims is 225 (even extreme summer tires)

However the old RT615 235/40 runs narrower then my 225/45 Kuhmo XS and would be more suitable on that 7" rim. Ive run that in the past. Shorter sidewall always helps alleviate some of the poor handling characteristics of a pinched tire since shorter sidewall reduces deflection. Quite a difference in sizing between manufacturers. One thing that will help you decided on size is to look up the specific manufactures size chart for the particular model tire in question. But a 235/40 - 255/40 combo on stock wheels is a good option as long as your happy with RE11, Z2 or RT615 as a selection. Dont think anyone else makes a 235/40/17.
