Need help on tire repair
I picked up a nail in my right rear tire (right in the middle of the tread). Since I had to take the car to the dealer for some other stuff anyway, I asked them to fix it. They plugged it rather than patching it and said I shouldn't drive more than 80 mph (apparently they didn't notice it's an S2K!). I only have about 1500 miles on this tire, so I'm really ticked.
What's the deal with tire repairs? Should they have patched it? If so, can they still patch it? What limitations do I have to worry about on my driving?
Thanks for any help.

Well I would definitly sugges that you PATCH the tire. A plug just gets stuck into the hole. This can lead to problems down the road and as they said your limited as to speeds.
A patch goes on the INSIDE of the tire and gets sealed over. This is a much better method though be it longer and requires dismouting of the tire. It makes for a tire that is in LIKE NEW condition since there is nothing to get pushed in/fall out/leak.
I had both rear tires patched at one point! Though I tracked/auto-x'ed the car with them. One point I just left a nail in the tire because I didn't want to take it out. On top of that I didn't have the ability because I found it while going through tech at NHIS(track event). It actually held air better than the tire with no nail in it. 7K miles later I took the tire off.(BALD) Nail was severely warn all be it.

I have patched and plugged many tires. While it is true the speed rating is no longer valid it is hard to throw away a perfectly good tire. I have never had a problem on a repaired tire. A couple tire companies even came out with tires that self seal when they are punctured.
As long as the nail is in the tread you will be fine.
