Default Need help...

These are the rims off my old type S- if I stagger the tire size of the rear tires to be bigger then the fronts- will this work on my S2000? All 4 rims are the same off set. If not =- is there anything I can do?

You need to tell us what the offset is. I've run the same rims on all 4 corners but with staggered tire sizes. These were for winter use only. I wouldn't feel comfortable using such rims for performance summer tires.

Thats my problem- dont know how to figure out the offset- sorry I am rim-stupid. I know they are the same all the way around. So i need i wider offset rims on the back? What do I ask for? So... its going to mess up my handling to run the same size rims all the way around buut having larger offset TIRES on the back?

Here is something that will graphically explain "offset" to you:

The other thing you need to know is the rim width. This will also come into play when deciding if the offset is OK.

My old winter rims were 7" wide with a 44mm offset. They stuck out just a bit more than OEM. Here is a pic that should help you see what it looks like on the car. Mine is the one on the right and the left one is using OEM rims. Both cars have OEM staggered tire sizing.

The problem with using the same width front and rear and still using the proper tire stagger is that, depending on the width of the rim, the narrower front tire will be stretched out while the wider rear tire will be pinched into the bead. This makes is necessary to also use different tire pressures to equalize the wear. Being stretched or pinched, as the case may be, will also change the rigidity of the tire's sidewall. It is this that will compromise the car's handling. This is why I used to only use such a configuration for winter use as we tend to not drive as vigorously in winter as we do in summer.

Thnaks- I dont know how I ended up so rim stupid. So if I roll up in a rim shop - lets say I want 17's -what do I ask for? Exactly? (If i want them to fit perfect with the perceft offset and will not negatevitely affect my handling?)

Well, for the near perfect rim fitment, use the Volk CE28N type of rim as your guide. These are most common for the S2000.

Unless you go to a custom shop, you will have a hard time finding such offsets and widths.
Then, typically, tires should be as follows for these rims ....................
225/45/17 front
255/40/17 rear

If your car is lowered, you will have to adjust these tire sizes slightly.
