Lower profile on stock rims? Jim /anyone help.
Hi,
I know that the stock rims call for 205/55 fronts and 245/45 rears but I wish my tires were a bit lower profile. I see sedans on stock tires that are lower than my Yoko's!!!! Astetically, I think lower (not too low) profile looks better. Are there tire sizes that would safely lower the profile on my stock rims?
From my limited understanding of tires, the rim size would have to stay the same and the total height of the tire would also have to be equal front to back. The following example may be too much, but I am just working the thought process.
Stock goes like this 205 x .55= a total tire height of 112.75mm
245 x .45= a total tire height of 110.25mm
So wouldn't these work too:
205 x .40= a total tire height of 82mm
245 x .35= a total tire height of 85.75mm
I notice that the difference is about 25%. Would that spell disaster? I realize my speedometer would be slightly off at hight speeds (but not 25% because the whole rim plus tire equals the diameter).

You don't want to do that. The tires do not have enough load capacity and they will throw off the anti lock brakes, speedometer and odometer. You would also end up with more gap in the wheel well. If you want lower profile tires you have to change the wheels and go plus one or two.
If I can help let me know.
