Default Lose the Low Profile Tires?

A friend suggested I remove the low profile tires and replace thewm with standard tires, as he did with his Corvette.

I know the ride would be better but wouldn't it look strange and handle quite differently?

Is my friend crazy?

This is a terrible idea. Please don't listen to this friend ever again.

^^^This. Lower profile tires (when compared to equivalent width-rated tires) have a higher contact patch, stiffer sidewalls, and give you much better response and grip while sacrificing ride quality.

I put 225/60/16s on my daily...now I wish I had gone with 205/50/16s as they actually have .2" wider tread width than the 225s and a much more responsive sidewall. The ride's nice though.

Don't do this. You change the speedometer, odometer, gear ratio and center of gravity on the car. None of those thing are good.

I put over 35k miles on my '06 last year and now after I wore out the stock tires I went with 255/40(rear) and 225/45(f) and they were OK but not what I wanted. So after those wore out I put 245/45(rear) and 235/45(f) tires on and I like the way the car rides and handles, plus I get better gas mileage with the taller tires. My speed-o runs 2.4 mph slow with the taller tires and I'm OK with that, not hard to remember. The car rides so much smoother with the taller tiers and we do take long drives, 500+ miles a day drives so I'm not as wore out at the end of the day. I don't track my car but do like to have fun so most of our drives are on mountain or coast roads.

I also don't have to worry(as much) about crap on the road, I can clear it because of the extra height of the car. I don't think I'll ever go back to the stock size tires again.
