Default loose feeling at speed with new es100's

I just bought 4 new Yoko ES100's (245/45/16 rear)(205/55/16 front) tires from tirerack. they now have about 200 miles on them but my car is now feeling really loose at 70mph +. the car got a full 4 wheel alignment when the tires were put on and doesn't pull, but is hyper sensitive... Car feels a little loose (although a lot less so) at slow speed as well. Any ideas? Was my alignment done wrong or do these tires stay really greasy for over 200 miles? HELP!!!

I got the exact same problem. I put on the Es100 in the rear and kept my stock s02's in the front. I got a 4 wheel alignment done. Now the camber is 0 in the front, and 1 3/4" in the back. My car feels very loose on the freeway. For example if I changed lanes quickly, I would have to counter steer to prevent the car from swirving over to the next lane. It's like a minivan would react, you wouldn't want to change lanes quickly going 70+ in a minivan. I can really use some help here!

Even though you've just had the car aligned, I suspect the alignment is causing this behavior. First, make sure the caster is correct and maximized - 5-6 degrees is sufficient. I'd then have the front toe rechecked and make sure there's some toe-in on the car. Not much is needed, and that should tame the dartiness. Make sure there is close to zero toe in the rear, with a little toe-in to keep it tracking straight. Also, I'd run a little camber up front too, about 1/2 to 1 degree.

ES100's do feel slippery for the first few hundred miles, they'll get much better when broken in.

Damn I wish I had waited another day to pay the alignment guy a visit. He left my steering wheel turning slightly to the left, so i went back to have him fix it. I could've asked him to reset the aignment settings. Well, I guess I got pay to have it done all over again. Hey If I burn out a lot, will it help break in the ES100's an quicker. He HE J/K.

I recently put ES100's at all four corners. Alignment was done immediately after putting the tires on. Basically, the handling characteristics felt like crap to me. Again... to me. I then had the UK Honda recommended alignment done. Much better. Turn-in is not as crisp as with the S-02's, but it's acceptable. Tire wear will be an issue surely. Not a real concern with the price of these tires. Also, I do not recommend 32 psi al the way around either. 34 psi in front/32 in rear is what I'm using. Let it be known that I am not an expert in this area... just know what I like as far as "feel."

And yes, you definitely need to run these tires a bit before they get their footing.

Well now that I have 2000 miles on the AVS and a FC2003 "aggressive run" under my belt with these tires, I can still say that I recommend them. Like others have said, the turn in isnt up to S02 specs, but the ride quality increase was worth it for me as I daily drive mine to work and back.

What I have noticed is that these tires need a considerable amount of warm-up time before they are ready to go, I slid sideways through the first 3 turns at FC2003, after about 10 minutes of spirited driving, they really started to hold well, I was following a stock S2K with S-02s and had no problem closing on it through corners, though he might not have been running at 100% of the cars capability.

It might be that the AVS are much more progressive at the break out limit, so the fear factor is not as high as with the S02's, when you loose it with those, you LOOSE it bigtime. You will know a half second before you are at the limit with the AVS-100's, jsut enough time for me to tame her down a little.

Anyway, I have really never had that sense of loosness on the highway, actually seems easier to keep in a straight line than the S-02's, I am running 35 psi rear and 33.5 front, seems to ride nicely with that setting, and keeps the rear in check, more like you are steering the car with the front 2 wheels that pivoting the car around the center yaw point, IMHO.

Just my 2 cents, Soyinside

I will jump in on the recommended bandwagon. I have had a set of ES-100's now for about 2K miles and I like them, also. To me, they are better feeling (and certainly much less expensive) than the Toyo T1-S I replaced the OEM's with last year. They are quite a bit softer feeling than the S02's and don't have as much grip. But I can't drive at 9/10's anyway, so these tires seem to let me use what they do have with more confidence as to where the limits are.

Thanks to all for your advice. I've now got over 500 miles on them (Big trip this week) and the car feels better already... Muchas Gracias!
