Default lighter wheels

Hello All-
Does anyone have an idea how much lighter a wheel has to be before you notice a handling/performance improvement?

that all depends on your level of perception. but obviously cutting a wheel's weight in half is significant.... the AP2 MY06 wheels are reeeeeal light. but i ordered a set of CE28N's and those are like 13 lbs a wheel. it doesn't get much lighter than that in a 17 inch wheel. for reference. check out wheelweights.com.

Ohh well. I'm also interested, and am also planning to get some LE28's

stock AP1 fronts are 16x6.5" 17.5lbs where as stock rears are 16x7.5" 19.5lbs; I'm pretty sure the LE28s are 17x7.5" 13.5lbs in front, and 17x9" 15lb rears.

Thats a 17lb saving...and I've heard before that rotation mass is as if you multiplied sprung mass by x8...so it would be as if you shaved 136lbs off the car. Would that be a correct and accurate statement?!?

those are all theoretical. for example i always heard every pound of unsprung weight is like 10 lbs. of sprung weight.

I heard x4 for unsprung, but ya...I could understand that rotation mass is more of an effect though.

NO NO NO.

The total amount of unsprung weight relates to suspension effectiveness, not speed. For example, brake calipers are unsprung weight but they aren't going to change your acceleration in any way.

Rotational mass is what you care about in this case.

You can feel a change in weight with only a couple of pounds. I just put on Prodrive GC-05s which are ~15lbs. Definately noticable.

Thanks for the feedback. Just trying to get an idea of performance effects as I check out new rim ideas.
