Default Kumho Ecsta being returned.... what to buy

Hi I just got a new set of Kumho Ecsta 4X KU22 in 225/40 and 255/35 from American Tires and am not happy with them! My previous tires were totally bald but still had more precise, crisp control. I feel like the sidewalls are super squishy and makes it feel a bit darty when driving strait. The grip is pretty good (first set of new tires with my S)... have 300whp ctsc and the back end is veryyy planted, The front end does push a bit though but im thinking its just my narrow 225

....has anyone else notice this tire being squishy?
-Kumho Ecsta 4X KU22 $168 TW 420

These would be my options from A Tires in my price range and size
(255/40/18)

-Falken Azenis FK453 $170 TW 300
-Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport $171 TW 340
-BFGoodrich g-Force Sport COMP-2 $185 TW 340
-Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position $186 TW 280
-Continental ExtremeContact DW $194 TW 340
-Bridgestone Potenza RE970 AS Pole Position $201 TW 400

Which ones would be best for me? They will be DD with 1 or 2 track days and a few auto-x days. Looking for tire life and dry grip. Yes I know you can't have the best of both worlds lol!
My set up;
-10mm wider front fenders
-Fronts; 18x7.5 +48 with 5-10mm spacer
-rear fenders rolled
-18x8.5 +52 (rubs a bit still)
-Crappy Firestone alignment

I think im going to get a 235/40/18 instead of 225/40/18.... I have Brembos and not sure I can clear the front fender though (higher offset to clear brakes)

And rears im thinking of going from a 255/35/18 to a 255/40/18 (What camber should I have, dont want to rub ANYYY more then I do!!!)

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

What did you expect? They are all seasons. Bald tires will always feel better than brand new/full tread depth because there was no tread squirm on the old tires.

Get something in the UHP, Max Performance Summer, or Extreme Performance Summer tire category. Don't get too caught up in tire UTQG ratings as they don't really mean that much. If the tires will be used for track and autocross then something in the max or extreme category will last the longest.

I would stay with 225/40 up front and If you're rubbing with 255/35 why would you do 255/40? Camber should depend on what tires you choose and how much track/autocross your car sees. What is your current alignment?

im lookin at it right now and a bit confused on it all... looks like .4 .5 camber up front, 1.5 in the rear, and .33 toe in rear wow. thinkin if I had 2 2.5 in the rear I could get the bigger 255/40

...any recommendations, Im not sure what category each tire is in.

Why do you want a 255/40? That is a much taller tire than the 255/35 and the front 225/40. It will look like a little goofy IMO.

If you want the most mileage from your tires run 0 toe up front and just a little bit of toe-in in the rear (.12ish degrees of TOTAL toe-in is what I like best so far). Maybe -1.5 degrees of camber up front and -2 in the rear would be a descent place to start. Oh and 6 or 7 degrees of caster up front.

Take a look on tire rack. Next to each tire they will list its category. Most of the time its categorized by UTQG ratings

140-200 is typically the Extreme Performance Summer category with the exception of a few.
220-340 is typically the max performance summer and ultra high performance summer category
360 and beyond is typically all season

My recommendation for tires for you is for 225/40(f) and 255/35(r) in the order of least expensive to most expensive. (under $700)

1) Federal 595
2) Sumitomo HTR Z III
3) Dunlop DZ101
4) BFG Sport Comp-2
5) Bridgestone RE760 sport

Looks like we agree on the RE760 and the BFG Sport Comp-2 .... the others are not an option as I am returning my tires and have to pick something that American Tires stocks!

To me the 225/40 up front look perfect as far as side wall hight but the 255/35 look so skinny in the back... and Iv had a hand full of people tell me a 255/40 will handle better. Arent most people that track the S running 255/40 all around????

You're running 18" wheels right? A 255/40 will not handle better than a 255/35. People that use 17" wheels use a 255/40R17 with an overall diameter of 25". A 255/35R18 has the same 25" overall diameter. A 255/40R18 will have an overall diameter of about 26.1" So roughly 1.1" taller than the front tires and current rears... thats a BIG tire for an S2000 and it will effect performance in a negative way.

Glad u informed me... prob would have ruined my fenders with some aggressive driving! So stick with the 40 up front??? Should I go 235/40....
Maybe someone else will chime in and get more opinions

Lol, fail! Don't go by looks but by FACTS! TR recommends 225/40/18 & 255/35/18, look here.

Not sure about America's Tire but the local Discount Tire can order in most stuff, even if it's not listed on their website.

The problem with 255/40/18 is the overall diameter of the tire is way off.

Look here.

Continental ExtremeContact DW $194 TW 340

I have these on my daily and they are a really nice tire for the money. With you being SC'd I'd spend the extra money and get some nice tires. Some Rivals or Star Specs (whatever the new ones are called).
