Kumho Ecsta ASX?
Anyone know anything about this tire? I see it on TireRack's site, and it looks like it might be a decent value for an all-season performance tire.
This article implies that they are brand new, as does the lack of reviews on tirerack.com.
What I really need are winter tires, but I'm on a really tight budget. It seems that I can get a set of these in the right sizes for $344 shipped, while real winter tires would be more around $480-550.
Anyone have any thoughts on running an all-season on the S2000 for the winter, instead of true winter tires?
I couldn't get my S2K out of the driveway this morning!

if you get some decent snow days then run a separate set of tires for summer/winter.....the S can be dangerous in the snow.....i ran a set of blizzaks last winter (ws-50 model along with 2 40lb bags of concrete mix wrapped in like 10 plastic bags in the trunk), they served me well....but I don't drive the S in the winter anymore.....but if you want to drive it in the winter buy real winter tires.....better to spend the extra $100 now then regret it later (God forbid).....good luck....BTW ...check ebay to see if they have any

I'm actually considering these (at the moment) for my "normal" S2000 tires. I have R compounds for autocross and track usage, and I don't care about street performance. I have been using old throw aways for over a year, but now I need to get it inspected.
Has anyone tried these?

gernby, as you can see this tire might be too new to get any useful feedback on it. You might consider calling Jim@Tirerack and schmoozing with him about it.
I ended up buying a set of Blizzak LM-22's mounted on American Racing wheels from fanoftheliving (highly recommended) Stretched the budget, but it is indeed very handy to have the winters mounted on a spare set of rims.

I drove the Kumho in the snow in a test on BMW 3 Series and they were all bad in the test. There is no all season tire that can handle the snow we were in. We were testing on a day we got 12" and you would really need a snow tire for those conditions. If it is a little snow I think they would be OK but ultimately I would recommend a snow tire.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

Jim thanks for the info! I did end up getting Blizzaks. But I think gernby is considering the ASX's for clear, non-snowy days. Any general impressions on them as street tires for the S2K?
