Kuhmo MX's vs. Kuhmo Ecsta Supra's
#2
I have ecsta supra 712's and I dont like them very much. I went to my first autocross with them last saturday and they didnt hold well at all. I spun once and actually felt understeer in a slalom. I dont know if all of this was due to the tires- it was a pretty crappy venue and it was about 40 degrees out. I havent had a problem with them on the street, though.

Jim is out of town for a day, or two. I am sure he will comment when he returns.
Saab -
I feel the temperatures of 40 degress would have made any summer tire, or race tire less compliant. I dont necisarily expect than any summer tire would have performed great on those conditions. I would also have addressed your tire pressures, particlarly rear tire, to stifen out your rear end, help it snap around.

I'm running MX's and they're comparable to SO3's. Treadwear is the same at 220. Tirerack tests actually rate this tire better than Michelin Pilot Sports and Yokohama Sports which are more expensive tires. Good tires for the price.

II don't like the 712s. I had them on my old civic and though they did grip the pavement pretty good, there are just so many better performing tires (for a higher price that is). Plus they sqealed like crazy during hard corniering.

The MX is on par with all of the other max performance tires. Here is a link to a test that was done here at the Tire Rack.

They are as good as you can get for the money.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

I'm interested in the Kuhmo MX's as well. They seem to be very comparable to the Honda OEM tire for less money. One S2000 owner said he didn't like them because they were VERY noisy and he thinks they wear faster then the OEM S02's. I noticed that the Kuhmo's only start with 8.5 32nds of tread depth versus 10/32 for the OEM S02's.
Another S2000 owner I know just got them and loves they way they grip (after the first few hundred miles). However, he didn't have S02's to begin with so I'm not sure that's a fair comparison.
I'd love to hear what other owners think about the MX's...
