Default Kuhmo Ecsta XS....

Thinking about going with these, but I couldn't find many threads on this site about them. Anyone here ever try them out? On the TireRack site, they seem to have pretty good reviews, but just not sure yet. I was on Star Specs, but wanna try something different.

I'm on them right now. I really like them. The grip is phenomenal. I don't know about you but the first time i got in an s2000 i was amazed by the quick steering response. With these i was amazed all over again becasue the turn in (in my opinion) is even sharper and quicker.

I am on the wear bars in the rears (actually i'm past them) and that is after about 10k miles but it does include a few track days...so they dont last too long but i like that they're asymetrical so i could rotate them in between track days and try to keep them wearing evenly.

I am about to get a new set of tires and would def. go with these again although i'm contemplating going with the star specs kind of like you, just to see what the other ones are capable of. I'm thinking that i will stay with the XS's becasue i can rotate them and am about to head to a track with mostly right handers but haven't quite decided yet.

Thanks a ton for the review!! From what you said, I'm assuming they have a stiff sidewall, which is exactly what I'm looking for.

Also, do they get very noisy? One thing I sorta disliked about the Star Specs.

I was expecting them to be pretty noisy but they actually provide the quietest, creamiest ride i've had yet. I read a post a while back where someone said they had a soft sidewall but i don't really know about that. I think they're pretty stiff and i like that the sidewalls are very square. they come almost straight down off the wheel (like if you're looking at them from behind the wheel...(hope that makes sense)) and i think it means there's a little more rubber on the road. I'm running them in stock sizes front and back, by the way.

I got them last month and put two autocrosses on them since.

I like them as well.

I had R comps for autocross last year, and while Kumhos are not as sticky, they are still really good. I enjoy autocrossing on them just as much.

They are also very quiet. I think they are even quieter than the stock RE050's were.

They are soft tires and I don't think they'll last super long. 10k-15k miles is probably most you are gonna get out of them. Less if you track or autocross.

Here's another thread with a few comments on the XS.

Lots of good info, thanks.

I'm think maybe a 215/255 or 225/255 setup. I've also read that these are pretty wide tires. Sounds similar to what you mentioned, them having a squared shoulder.

255 is exactly the size of the rear wheel, the sidewall goes down exactly where the edge of the rim is.

225 is a little wider than the wheel. 215 in front would look exactly like the way 255 does in the rear. Anyway, I don't think they are particularly wide for their size. In fact I think they are exactly the size advertised. I don't think 215 vs 225 would make much difference grip wise, but 215/255 would probably have the best look, if you are into that sorta thing.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the 215/255 setup. The wheels are 17x8 and 17x9, reason why I was thinking a 225 would be good for the front(it wouldn't have as much of a 'stretched' look).

Looking at the pattern, I realized that the 2 front tires would not be the same, right???
