Default Increase tire weight

Hi all,

Just picked up some ssr wheels. Looks like i am saving approximately 20lbs. I am going to go from the stock 215, 245 RE050 to 225, 255 z1 Star spec tires. I was wondering in general how much weight would i put on with the jump in sizes as such? I was just curious if i would gain, lose, or even out in weight with the new wheels and wider tires.

Just based on the numbers provided by tire rack:

RE050s:
215/45/17 - 22lbs
245/40/17 - 26lbs

Direzza Z1s:
225/45/17 - 26lbs
255/40/17 - 28lbs

In total, you'll be adding around 12lbs over the old tires.

But you will be adding more traction and performance.

Yes definitely worth it, i would never consider sacraficing grip for weight. I was just curious if the net affect would be an increase or decrease in weight.

My new wheels weigh - 14.3 lbs front, 15.2 rear

Someone weighed the MY08 wheels to be
21.7, 25.8 in a box minus about 3 lbs per box =
18.7lb front, 22.8 rear for just the wheels.

So we are looking at a weight saving of:

front weight savings = 4.4*2 = 8.8 lbs
Rear weight savings = 7.6*2 = 15.2 lbs
total = 24 lbs

Just to be on the conservative side, I say 20lbs just in case the scale was a bit off or I miss judge the weight of the boxes.

Either way thats a 8-12 lb weight savings with wider tires! I would have been happy with zero net change from decreasing wheel weight and increasing tire weight, but even better.
