Am I the only one who has to change rear tires ever 10-12k miles? I drive 120 miles a day for work...so in about 3-4 months time I'm replacing rear tires. I don't drive hard, I don't peel out, and I'm rarely above 4k rpm because my car has 147k miles on it.

I've been going to discount tire, and getting the pro rated warranty on my tires every few months for three years. I'm tired of doing this. It's a burden, and honestly I have better things to be doing.

Discount Tire says it's because of the offset on the rear tires. I've done research on these forums in the stickies to find out what's going on. My question is this...

Can I get all four wheels and tires the same size?

This would allow me to have the tires rotated, thus saving me money every few months because I won't have to get new rears.

I don't race my car. Performance isn't my intention. It's my daily driver and I treat it as such. If I lose handeling, performance, traction...I don't care. As long as the tires last longer and I can rotate them.

Possible?

yes, you can go with a non staggered set up.

Do I need all four wheel sizes to be the same? If so, do I go with the front 16" x 6.5" or the rear 16" x 7.5"?

Is it personal prefference, or will 7.5's in the front rub?

7.5s won't rub, i have actually seen people ride 16 x 7.5 all around. Just look for tires that will give you a high thread rating. I would suggest Falken all seasons. What type of tires have you been purchasing?

BTW discount is wrong, offsets due not cause tire wear... your alignment causes accelerated tier wear. Take it to have an alignment done.

You can't use 16X7.5 stock rear wheels on the front. It will not fit over the hub.

10-12k on rear tire is pretty typical BTW. I'd just keep the staggered setting, but may be set the TOE in to 0. This will compromise high speed stability but it will make the tires last longer.

Discount didn't say that the offset causes the high tread wear, they said not being able to rotate the tire is causing it. Sorry for the confusion.

Yokohama AVID v4s is what I've been running. I believe they have a very high treadwear rating.

I've had my car alligned at least three times. It drives straight as an arrow.


So I've gotten two responses about 7.5's in the front. My car isn't lowered or anything. Has anybody done it personally and knows for a fact it will or will not work?

Toe in is what causes the fast wear on the rear. The rear tires are pointed in like // \\ to minimize oversteer and increase stability at speed.

Set rear camber to -2.0 and 0mm toe in so that the rear wheels are now || ||. And buy better tires than AVID v4s. You can get Fuzion ZRi 245/45-16 for less than $100.
