I think he's choosing between 17X8.5 +50 and 17X9 +65..

Run 245 if you choose 8.5.

Run 255 if you choose 9.

What offsets?
8.5 +50 or +48?

9 +65

I just don't want real thick tires on 17s cuz the tires will make the wheels look small.

isnt 17 x 7.5 215/45 - 17 x 8.5 245/40 ideal for an s2000?

If you're referring to a Volk wheel, then the 17x9 +65 is a TE37 match. The CE's/LE's are +63. We shouldn't even be having this discussion. Get the wheel that best fits the car: 17x9 +65.

Why would you put wheels on a sportscar that potentially reduce handling? It seems you're more concerned with looks than performance. I've had Volks that barely fit and ones that fit better. None of the Volk traditional offerings are "perfect," but the 17x7.5 +50 and 17x9 +63/+65 is close. Rears are perfect... fronts could use a bit more. I'd use 225/255's on the above wheels.

One last thing, Steve @ Evolution has always been a big help to me.

What does the rear wheel have to do with the front tire size? If you're worried about stagger, the 225/255 is plenty.

^^I agree with both the posts above

Personally I would go with an 8.5 inch rear wheel. I run 255/40/17 in the rear, the wheel is 17x8.5 +54 no issue

heres a pic for reference (sorry not a close up)

I dont think the wheel looks small and Azenis have a pretty large sidewall

The setup I have is.....

Volk TE37

17x7.5 +48 (Falken Azenis RT615 225/45/17)
17x8.5 +50 (Falken Azenis RT615 255/40/17)

The rears are rolled because I slighly rub on some bumps with this setup. With the stock wheels and these tires there are no rubbing issues what so ever. Hope that helps.

You should be worried more about offsets than wheel width. The above is definitely not recommended.
Handles great and I get compliments non-stop. Tires are exactly the same diameter as stock, so I don't see the problem...
