Default How to determine condition of tires

How do you determine when its time to replace tires due to age/heat cycling?

I have a set of front S02's that I bought with my spare set of wheels. The tread is probably at 90% or better. The guy I bought them from had them sitting in his garage for 2 months in the Arizona fall (80 degree weather), and I've had them in my air-conditioned house for 7 or 8 months now.

I want to buy a new set of rear tires and use these as my fronts, but I dont want them chunking off, especially since they will likely see some HPDE time.

Does the fact that they have never seen above 90 degrees negate the fact that they are likely about a year old?

Among others, hoping for Jim to chime in...

Thanks guys

From what I've learned, 3 years is the maximum life of a tire, regardless of tread. Also, check to see if the tire is dried up or shows any signs of cracking. That is also a good indicator of the condition of the tire.
