Help with winter tire purchase. No winter tires at Tirerack.com ??
Well with all the crash stories, and the general consensus that the S02's are not the best cold weather tire, I need some help.
What are you running for winter tires, and how much did you pay? Blizzak's seem to get good reviews ?? I'm also thinking this will prolong the life of the S02's and put off having to replace them. But mainly this is a safety issue as this car will be driven through the winter months. Not in snow, but in cold weather.
Thanks for any help.

I'm running Dunlop Winter Sport M2's in stock sizes. They seem to have the best snow/ice traction for area's that get a good amount of snow. They are also higher speed rated (H rating) than most other snow tires out there.
Bridgestone has the Blizzak LM-22 and the MZ-01 which are both great tires as well.
Tire Rack has all of these in stock right now.

Last winter I used the Blizzak MZ-01s. This winter I am switching to the LM-22s. I drive quite a few miles on the highway during the winter, so I wanted a higher speed rated winter tire. Other than the speed rating, I was very satisfied with the MZ-01s last winter.

My rear winters are the stock OEM size in the Blizzak. I've run them one complete winter already and they don't look any more worn than new. Then again, I don't drive in winter like I do with the SO2's in summer. I've had Blizzaks on a FWD minivan for 4 winters now and they have not worn down to the all season radial tread yet - far from it. This would not be true for extended hiway running. They'll wear quite fast then.
Another thought: If you don't plan to drive in snow, maybe you should consider Goodyear Aquatread. I have a friend with a FWD car on these and he says that winter snow performance was very good. On our RWD car, they might be very good if no snow is encountered.

We have the Dunlop Winter Sport M2 in stock at 205/55R16 102.00 and rear 225/50R16 126.00 per tire. These tires would be excellent for the car with good dry and wet traction in a dedicated winter tire. We also do have a few other options for the car.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you

I ran LM-22s in the OEM sizes (on a second set of factory wheels)last year and was very happy.
Well, as happy as you can be in Boston.
I just changed over the the LM-22s last week and today we are in the 60 degree zone (go figure).
Mine were purchased at Advance Tire in Cambridge (wicked close to MIT). The prices are higher but they take great care of my car and change my wheels over free every season.

as far as roadsters go...
i've driven a boxster with M2's in winter - lousy tire (IMO)
i've driven a boxster with Pirelli 210's in winter - excellent tire (IMO)
i have the MZ-01's on my S2000 - excellent tire (IMO) - i liked it's "predictabliity" a little better than the pirelli.
i have the 210's on our BMW - works superbly.
stay away from dunlops...
