Default HELP! TIRE rears are DONE!

I need to order my rear tires, as its been raining and the car is not drivable.

My federals up front are 215/45/17 with about 75% tread (thread?) life on them which will stay on the car.

The rear has Federal 245/40/17 on them which are going to be replaced.

(Federal SS 595's)

my rims offsets--- F: 17x7.5 +50
R: 17x9 +63

Now I am going to pick up the Sumitomo HTRZ III as I seem to have read lots of good stuff compared to other tires.

Lots of people are going with 255/40 in the rear now apparently.

I am on Tein RA 3" drop with CE28's (17's) what size rear should I get so it causes no problems or rubbing etc. 255/40/17 or 245/40/17?

Why do you need 3 threads to pick a set of tires?

So what you're saying is that you've been on internet forums for nearly 6 years and either

a. you haven't figured out multiple threads on one topic is rude and not cool

or

2. you know and don't care

You should be fine depending on your wheels offset, 3 in is a lot though ...

But worst case scenario, a fender roll should be enough..

next time get 225 in front, you'll like the 225.255 combo

I would think that before you go out and just buy a 255 width tire, you would want to learn and know what that would do to your handling. Now of course going from a 245 to a 255 is not a huge jump, but you've spent a good deal of money on your car, suspension and wheels. Don't you want to learn what they do for you in terms of handling? And what the difference in stagger is between a Federal 215 and a Sumitomo 255 is? Will you oversteer, understeer, how stable it is in the dry, in the wet, etc? Knowledge is power!

255s work great in the rear.

its also a notable fact if you run a 255/40 in the rear your speedo will be correct. (normally the s2k speedo is 2mph fast, but with 255/40 series tires it will read correctly as verifed by GPS)

yea i would but I dont track or anything. the info ppl gave on wet handling is the tires are great for it as is for dry.

I know it isn't the best idea to have two different wheels as it is but I dont plan on spending 200 hundred on tires for the front if it has 75% thread life. Thats the only reaosn why I didn't ask it.
