Default Help me choose a better tire size

Currently running:

17x8 et48 front
17x9 et50 rear

My old tire setup is a 225/245 direzza starspec Z1

I'm boosted now (400ish whp) and i want to get the new star spec zii (z2) trough tirerack

I want to widen the rear size to 255 and im wondering if i should stick to the 225 front size or go also one size larger, to 235.

However, ive read sometimes that the 235 is an odd tire size that likely wont match good to a 255 rear. And i dont want to mess up the front fender. My old setup rocked without any problems.

Im lowered on kw v3 btw.

Thanks for reading/helping!

+1 I run 225F and 255R with RE-11A's. The car is very well balanced with this setup, though I'm still riding on stock suspension.

Well what year s do you have? Its a consideration becuase depending on the year the traction bias from front to rear is quite a bit different. Also you just changed that by adding nearly 100lb to the car and most all of that is up front hanging over the front wheels. If your already going for the z2, I'm inclined to recomend putting the 235/40 up there. That is a totally reasonable pairing to a rear 255/40 that is often done.

Every person recommended the same thing with limited information and no reason mentioned for recommending it, which is a raised flag to me. Yeah 225/45-255/40 can be a well balanced choice, and so can a 235/40.
Fender clearance isn't going to be an issue for you with either option.

I got a "00 ap1...

Mu build tread: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/102...h-turbo-build/

I did relocate the battery to the trunk to compensate the weight balance a little. Btw the turbo+header and ic isnt 100pounds heavier than the oem header setup though. But it IS heavier, thats for sure.

Im also running a SANER front sway (softest setting)

Im a bit worried the 235 would bite into my front fender or that the overall diameter is visible different than the rears which i have read a few times..

Thanks for the input so far!

Either way. I'd probably try the 235/40. Visibly smaller-diameter and shorter-sidewall fronts isn't a bad look anyway. Width-wise, tread is about 1/4" further outboard suggesting fender contact more likely, but radially the shorter 235/40 is about 1/4" further from the fender vs. 225/45. Might be a wash on clearance.

Sorry I assumed you were running a supercharger, turbo is a fair bit lighter yes.

00 ap1 is more apt to needing more tire in the rear, or less up front, however you have disrupted the traction balance more by adding a stiffer front sway, so if you want more useable options with running stiffer/lighter on the front sway adjustments, having more tire width up front would be a good option for staying more in balance. The front 235/40 will look slightly shorter in tire profile to rear yes.

Few reasons I said to stick with 225 in the front:
•You said you don't want to mess up your front fenders- I ran 225 on a 8" +48 wheel and it cleared, but not by much. A 235 on a 8" +48 will cause a slight ballooning of the sidewall, and may require a roll to fit. This may not be an issue with the zII as they have stiff sidewalls and the shorter 40 sidewall may make it doable without work. 8" is the minimum wheel width for 235/40
• 235/40 is .6" shorter than a 255/40 this may not be a big concern for most, but can result in a brake bias change and could possibly affect abs. 225/45 and 255/40 have the same rotational diameter.
• the added power will have a lot more of an impact on the rear than the front. I am running 235/265 z1 on mine and have an issue with the rear wanting to come out under power. I am at 330 whp with a saner fsb.

I ran z1's in 235/40/17 on a 8" +45 front and a 255/40/17 on a 9" +45 rear. The 235 doesn't bulge on a 8" wheel anymore than a 255 tire on 9" wheel..

here's the best picture I could find to show how they looked (ignore the front fenders):
