I have them on my Ap2 and they are great. Very comfortable but still very grippy. You will be happy with them.
How would you compare them to the OEM RE050?
Superior ride, lower road noise, predictable handling, excellent in the rain. And for half the price.

How about overall grip and cornering stability. Anything besides "predictable"?

They have excellent grip for their price, they aren't in the league with Star Spec's/RS3's but they have a forgiving, sure footed grip that is predictable at it's limit of adhesion. Remember your paying for a tire that does just about everything you want in a DD tire and is comfortable when pushed hard. One thing I found about the Hankooks is it takes about 200 miles to wear off the mold release off the tires which gives them a greasy feel till it's worn off.

I'm basically trying to figure out if these are going to be a performance upgrade or downgrade from the stock RE050s As of now I haven't gotten a clear answer to that. I expect them to be lower performance than Starspecs and the like, but I'd like not to move down in performance from the OEM tires I currently have.

Performance Downgrade.

Pros: Cost, Wet handling, Grip per $, tread wear, comfort

Cons: squishy sidewall, grip (subjective)

Actually, I and testing disagree. When tested against the "superior" star specs, the hankooks were as good in not better in all tested categories except for lateral g grip in dry conditions which the hankooks were only about 1.5mph slower and about .01 g's less. For about half the price I would say the hankooks are more than sufficient with their only down fall being a softer side wall that flexes more than you'd like a performance tire to.
I will say that after about half life on these tires, they tend to have a gradual (noticable) decline in over all performance. But most tires are like this though.

I have read review after review saying the sidewall is soft/squishy compared to its competition. Not saying they don't grip, but have a numb feeling. I have been debating for a month or so about getting these or going with the Yokohama S-Drive tire. I have recently decided against both and went with the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires. They have a mileage warranty even with staggered sizes and did not cost but $40 more per tire than the Hankook's. I sell tires for a living at a local tire shop and there is nothing like a good Michelin tire. My sizes are 18x8 +50 P245/45r18 front and 18x9.5 +55 P265/35r18 rear. I'm installing them today so I will report back or start a thread.
