Hankook Ventus V12
Howdy Folks!
After a bit of deliberation about new tires, I decided on the V12s. After reading about how well they did on a comparo vs. most other brands (#2 overall, #1 of a couple of tests). I had debated about Star Specs, and if I were involved in a little more tracking (and definitely if it was competitive), I would probably have gone with them, but they were $300 more in this size.
Funny enough, I haven't bought new tires in 6 years or so. I kept trading wheel/tire setups and getting new[er] tires in the deal, so I haven't had to hassle with mounting for a long time.
The Pirelli that came with my wheels where at about 60-65% with some uneven wear, then I proceeded to lower my car, drive for ~3K miles without an alignment so they pretty much got chewed up (my car I believe was out of align at stock height, so lowered it was just a tire killer). I've since had a really tight alignment dialed in (using the UK spec).
I had almost ordered some Sumi HRZ III back a month or so when the rebate was 'doing', but I missed it and waited on my baldies A week ago the LR started leaking down, so it _really_ got to be time.
For the record, I used Rays Goodyear in St. Augustine, and they were super professional, the balance feels excellent, no nicks or anything. I left it overnight and they locked it up in a bay for me too.
The tires: quiet, excellent turn in response, they look great, they ride *super* nice. Now I don't know how much of that is a new tire vs. my "racing slicks" and how much is the reported more compliant V12 sidewall, but I like the results. I read several reviews (from owners of Porsche, M cars, Elise, Corvettes, etc.) that said the tire was simply outstanding for the street and the occasional track duty (and that the limits really can't - or shouldn't - be approached on public roads anyway).
I'll post back after I get a little mileage on them, though considering how little I use the S, it'll be months before I break 500 miles
Oh yeah, I meant to add, that these are available online, to your door for about $610-620 in my size, and there's currently a $50 rebate (tires have to be puchased by June 30th). So ~$570 total, for 225/40-18 (x2) and 255/35-18 (x2).
If the tire performs like it seems it will (based on my tiny bit of driving and research), it's a hell of a good deal, and an even better deal with the extra $50 discount!

These on on my Evo now. Not a bad street tire, but if you're going from something like Yokohama Advans or Bridgestone RE-01r's, you'll be disappointed. They might grip as well and are quiet (wife thought I threw on all seasons), but don't offer the same kind of feedback these more aggressive tires do.

Wet weather performance (East Coast of Florida has a been *drenched*) is really outstanding. Extremely happy with this product so far as a high performance, street tire with exceptional rain characteristics.
