Thumbs up Gotta couple wheel ?'s

hey guys, well I know absolutely nothing about wheels/tires except I need some new ones. im runnin on my stock 16's and they have worn out their welcome.

My questions are I think i'm pretty set on getting 17". My car is used mainly for track and canyons and Id love to put some more rubber on the road for more grip. what is the best combo front and rear width I should be looking into for wheels? I pretty much want the fattest tire i can fit under there with out rubbing. full coilovers are in the near future and I pretty much just want to get rid of the wheel gap, nothing too slammed but I dont want to have to get new wheels once I go lower.

Another concern for me is how to keep my speedometer correct and the correct wheel diameter. Is this pretty much a non issue to find 17" wheels with tires and keep the same overall diameter as my stock 16"s on S02's?

Thanks guys, after I figure out what wheel size, width, offsets ill be getting I suppose my next question will be tires but ill worry about that a little later (want to take it one step at a time).

Anyway just want to stress one of the main reasons I want to go with aftermarket wheels is so that I can throw on some wider tires and gain some grip, and possibly open up more tire options with a 17".

Thanks a million guys and thanks in advance. Sorry for all the questions!

What's your budget? The wider rims with good offsets are usually alot of money.

hmmm I dont really have one yet. I have been reading around and it doesnt look like I need anything too crazy wide as the tires are more important for grip than how wide.

My budget is pretty much open, I just want the best setup for performance and most options for tires really. I dont really want my tires out the sides of the car or overall taller than my stocks.

I would just hate to get wheels and tires and feel that the car as less grip or feels worse than when I had my stocks on.

Anyone have any suggestions??? Im really liking the ce28's since they are pretty light and I like the way they look and all... but I'm open for ideas.

Edit: also whats the widest in the rear and what kinda stagger would be recommended for track use? I want the rear to look normal under the wheel well and not sticking out or anything. would a 9.5" rear fit with proper offset without sticking out and crazy neg camber on a slightly lowered car? Or would a 9" be better off?

He has an '03 AP1. Will handling be affected by increasing the stagger from 1" to 1.5"? Not sure, I'm curious myself since wheels are in my future as well.

i think handling will increase...i remember seeing on a Hot Version dvd they bolted AP2 wheels onto an AP1 and the handling got better...it allows for more contact patch and stiffer sidewalls on the tires

yeah is there any reason why they changed the stagger ratio from AP1 to AP2...and do you need to stick to your ratio??

hey guys I have been reading about how an ap1 handles best with ap1 wheels and actually worse or absolutely NO better with high end aftermarket wheels. I really want to buy wheels but not if its ONLY for the look. I thought there may be somewhat more noticeable grip..otherwise I may just get ap2 wheels.

can anyone assure me otherwise??
