Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 vs. Bridgestone RE050 (A)?
I'm considering the Goodyear F1 as replacement for the OEM Bridgestones on my MY04. Have people had good experience with them?
Should I stick with the stock sizes 215/45/17 & 245/40/17? I'm aware the Goodyear have slightly different treadwidth than the Bridgestones (ie a bit wider 0.4" in front and a bit narrower 0.7" in back than the RE050's).
I'm not a super aggressive driver but am just looking to try something different.
Thanks for your comments!!

I have been considering the same move myself. I just checked the numbers and I find that the rear difference is actually .9 inch narrower. (From Tire Rack and Bridgestone sites).
My question is does that increase understeer tendency since it appears that that grip balance has been shifted forward. I also see that F1 has a 255/40 option for the rear. Even that tire is .03 inch narrower than the stock rear tire.
I, too would be interested in comments and any real world experience. Realize there's more to it than raw tread width numbers.

Exactly my thoughts. The F1's look like awesome tires from all the reviews on the Tire Rack site etc, and seem to be even a bit cheaper than the Bridgestones. But I am concerned about messing up the stagger on the car, tho I suppose its personal preference in the end.
Maybe Jim at Tire Rack can chime in here with some comments?

If you are worried about oversteer, go with a 255/40/17 in the back. (assuming they make one). Suzakaboy, I think you have oversteer and understeer confused.
Personally,I think the 04MY understeers from the factory. I'm currently running RE050A Pole Positions (Better tire than OEM IMHO) in a 225/45 255/40 combo, my favorite street tires so far after around 22 different sets of tires.
Cheers,
Mike

I just picked up the Goodyear F1's for my AP2 (replacing the OEM RE050's) and I love them. The biggest difference I noticed was much improved wet traction and they are a bit cheaper. I would strongly recommend them over the OEM Potenza.

I had Goodyears (GSD3 F1) sized 225/40 18 f 245/35 18 r and I thought they were great tires, especially in the rain. I never had Bridgestones on the 18's but the car was smore stable with the Goodyear 18's in the rain than it was with S02s or S03s. The tread didn't last very long for me though.

I have F1's on my 2001. I went with the 245/50 size (yeah, I know they are a little off) and the handling is great and the wet traction is fantastic.
