Default goodyear eagle F1

i have a set of GY eagle F1 245/50zr16 installed in the rear a week ago, so far i am very pleased with these tires. they are not as sticky as SO2, but pretty close. compared to kumho supra and yoko es100, eagle F1 is significantly better in terms of adhesion. they cost a little more than kumho or es100, but i think the price differential is well justified.

i havent seen many reviews of the F1's here, i am curious how other people feel about these tires.

Are you talking about the Eagle F1 G-D3's? They are a very good tire and perform on par with the S03's and Pilot Sport 2's.... however the tread width in the specs I read always seem to be an inch narrower than other tires of the same size. I do not know why this is the case, and perhaps might be one reason people with the S2000 shy away from them, since we seem to be concerned with tread width being equal or more than stock S02's.... I'm sure rain traction is MUCH higher in the F1's than in your stock S02's.

Additionally, ES100's and Ecsta Supra 712's are not really in the same league as the F1's. Those are generally considered Ultra High Performance tires (not Max Performance) and are basically the best performance for a reasonable cost. They are not meant to be as good as Max Performance tires but are meant to be pretty good for what you pay for.

As an FYI, the F1's are VERY popular tires in Europe though, and we know that many Europeans drive at sustained high speeds.

Just noticed that you have 245/50/16... for stock rims you will need 245/45/16... the 50 series means you have a taller tire, ie more sidewall and consequently, more flex/rollover.

Since many of us run stock wheels that is another reason why it is not mentioned here.

thanx for your suggestion. i intentionally run 245/50, i believe these tires have slightly more contact patch than the 45's(feel free to correct me if i am wrong). i know the tires are a little taller, but seem to work well so far. i dont know the contact patch of eagle f1 compared to so2, so3, kumho, or es100, but my butt tells me f1's are a lot better than es100 and kumho supra.

I installed a new set of 17" Volk LE28N's complete with a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3's just prior to the Fall Colors tour. There wasn't one turn where I was sliding sideways and I'm just not used to that at all. I have used the OEM tires and also several sets of Kumho 712's. We even went for a drive in the rain with no hint of a problem.

These are the top rated tires on the Tire Rack's web site in it's class. This includes all of the performance tires, including the Bridgestones. The S02's were way down the list, with the S03's third to the F1's. Here's a link to the rankings: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresult...lay.jsp?type=MP

I used these tires in the Fall Colors and find them to be excellent. They are much more forgiving than the S02's and they have much more traction than any tire I have ever used in the wet. They have nearly the same traction rating in the wet as they do in the dry. They are quiet and they should last a lot longer than the OEM tires. There is a very slight compromise to get this excellent tire and that is a very minor loss of crispness on initial turn in. They do not feel as crisp as the OEM tires, but they really bite going into a turn. I'm more than satisfied to have these tires on my car compared to the OEM tires.

When I bought mine, I bought 215-45-17's for the front and 255-40-17's for the rear. One of the reasons that you don't hear much about them is the fact that they aren't available in the correct sizes for a 16" wheel. The other reason is that these tires were developed and tested in Europe.

I would recommend these tires to anyone,
Bob

Ditto ...

Running 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 on Volk CE28Ns and love them.

Good in wet and longer wearing for freeway driving.

I'm running
225/40YR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 XL
245/35YR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
I havent really driven them aggressively much yet, but I've been pretty happy with them so far. They feel good in the rain.

I think the tread pattern looks pretty cool too, if that counts.
