A good set of wheels
#6
Indeed...how much you willing to spend. And by good do you mean just good looking or lighter than stock and good looking? And size...do you want to stick with 16s or upsize?
In a 17 cast I'd look at OZ Alleggeritas, 5Zigen FN01RCs, and Enkei RPF1s. All are exceptionally light and strong for a cast wheel. They will run from 150 to 250 or so per rim, depending on what kind of deal you can swing. Don't forget to budget for new tires if you upsize.
If you can afford forged, you have a lot of very nice options.
Be sure to check the wheel size/offset info sticky in the Wheels and Tires forum. Also watch for some very nice deals on used rims in like new condition on the s2ki member for sale forum.
I picked up a set of forged 17" Prodrive rims in an s2K offset and stagger...they're made by Ray's...from a sponsor/vendor who had a set that was barely used. I mean you couldn't even tell they had been mounted on a car, they were so clean. They were listed in the for sale forum. New they listed for about 2400. I got them for 1400 for the set.

Rule for wheel selection:
Light, strong, cheap - pick any 2

Minor correction: I said "light and strong for a cast wheel."
These rims all run around 16-18 lbs for 17x7-8 and all are reasonably rugged.
In particular, the 5Zigen FN01RCs are plenty tough enough to stand up to harsh street and track use and 17x8s weigh in at 17 lbs. That's one pound more than a forged Work Emotion. Enkei RPF1s are reasonably stout and 17x8s weigh just 15.5 lbs, or less than a Volk TE37 of the same dimentions.
Casting technology has come a long way in the last 10 years. If your wheel budget is $200 per rim then any of the cast rims I mentioned make a lot of sense.
And its not like forged rims are industructable. I bent an MF08 on a bad pothole and have seen other expensive forged rims bent by road hazzards.
