Default Give me your opinion on what tires I should get

Hey there. My S is in need of new tires and I would like the opinion of some longer-time members on which ones I should get for my needs. Ive searched and read around a lot but still cant make up my mind. Wheels are AP1 16s.

My main needs are dry traction and treadlife, dont care about wet. The S never sees rain, Im in the desert.. it never rains here and when/if it does the S is in the garage. I want a tire that can handle in dry and will last a while.

Here are my choices, that I can budget for, in 245/45/16 rears. Yeah 16s are a bitch damnit, seems all the good tires are available for 17" wheels and up.. -

Hankook Rs2

Toyo T1R

Fuzion ZRi

Yokohama AVS ES100

And one other that I wanted but of course its not available in the 245/45 size was the Bridgestone Potenza REO50 Pole Position, however it is available in a 225/50 size for the rear. I had these tires in a fatty 285/35/18 on my 300ZXTT and really liked them. But is it worth losing the 1" or so of rear tread to choose the Bridgestone 225s over the others available in 245 width? Idk.

What would you suggest? Dry handling and tread life wise. Fronts will be a 205 for any of the above if it matters. Thanks

Not thrilled about any of those choices and the Yok is an old model. The Toyo is OK.

Which is more important to you, grip or life?

If it's dry grip, Bridgestone RE01R's (stock sizes) are most likely your best bet.

I have the RS2's as summer tires. Excellent grip, wet or dry, and decent performance at the track as well (Lime Rock last Nov.). I have no doubt the RE01R's are much better still, but the RS2's would definitely be a good lower-price option for you.

If you want longer life over grip, B'stone RE750's or RE760's would be my first choice.

Oh yeah, with good tires, 225/50-16 rears is nothing to worry about.
Similarly, with crappy tires, going 245/45-16 won't help you.

All the tires you mention should be good enough, but personally the ZRi and ES100 wouldn't be on my short list of tires.

But not in the same $$$ range as the Fuzion...

Thanks guys. Zdan - I was looking at the 750s first but seems they are being phased out.. is this everywhere or just at tirerack? Also the 760s look like a nice tire but are they on the market yet?

I would like the RE01's but they sound like they would wear very fast but maybe its worth it.

Im leaning to the Rs2 in 245 width or the Bridgestones, just cant decide which Bridgestone. 750s are leaving, 760s arent here, RE01 are the best but will wear fast, and the RE50PP. Hmmm

Dude, I know exactly what I'd get if I were you:
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's.

Ranked just lower than the RE01R in a Tire Rack test of "Extreme Performance" tires:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...y.jsp?ttid=100

Higher treadwear rating vs. the RE01R (200 vs. 140).

And they have them for $73 for fronts, $65 for rears!

Act now, fewer than 4 left in the rear size...

The tires you are talking about are a differnt tire. The tire that is similar to the RE-01R is the Direza Sport Z1. they are 108.00 front and 119.00 rear. I still like the RE01R better if you are looking for the best.
If I can help let me know,

???
Looks like you have Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1's for $73 for 205/55-16, $65 for 225/50-16 to me. I'm tempted to buy a set now for when I need to replace my summer tires, which probably won't be until August or so!
