Front Tire life?

Front Tire life?
I was checking my front RE070 tires date codes (3607) and found out that they were made in the 36th week of 2007
I figured that they were old but I read on Tire Rack that " most street tires have a useful life in service of between six to ten years"
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...jsp?techid=138
the tires still have a lot of tread left 6/32 and I was figuring on keeping them still until next year, although they do not feel soft anymore for a 140 treadwear tire
I also have a brand new unused set of RE070s fronts that were made in 2008
This got me wondering how long do staggered S2000 drivers usually keep their front tires since you can't rotate the to the rears?
Would you keep them until they get down to the wear bars or change them after 5-6 years?
thanks

Good question, on my '07 I think my 050's have a fair amount of tread left as well. I don't think my tires will last 10 years though, even if they did I would probably consider changing them out after 8. I guess it would depend on if they look like they are drying out or not.

I've never really relied on a timeline as they're based on averages and the difference between 6 and 10 years is the difference of about 40k miles give or take (average), so it's pretty safe to say (from a manf standpoint) that your tires should wear down visably in that time frame. that said, you'd be best served by checking your tires on a regular basis for wear and tear and using the manf date as a guideline to put you in the ballpark regarding when you should replace your tires.

Well since mine wear out and get replaced every other year, I have never had to deal with this issue. I'd say put more hard miles on your car lol, or just keep running them until they are down to the wear bars. Obviously your not pushing 140 wear rated tires hard enough for them to be a safety concern. If you start to see weather cracks in the sidewalls before you get to the wear bars, then replace them. That is a safety concern.

Here are my front tires now, I put them on my V8 muscle car temporarily just to test fit them as rain tires because my muscle car's regular 275 tires hydroplane
215's and 290 ft lbs of torque = zero traction although is is fun as hell sliding around, might keep on for a little while longer
I also have a track day in 2 months and that should wear these tires down pretty good
