best bet is to replace the tire. you don't want it to blow when you're out on the highway. i used fix a flat before. it didn't cure the problem, it just temporarily patched the problem. i noticed there was some kind of watery substance when i got the tire replaced, so you wanna get that crap out anyways.

it you've patched or plugged the tire before, Fix-a-flat eats through patch glue. I would only use it if it was an emergency. Otherwise, new tire

never fix a side wall punch... strength is important.
you can patch a hole in the tread area

you should replace the tire..
