Or just run better tires. MT's come to mind.
I have 275/40/17 drag radials on my spare rims. The issue with Mickey Thompson and other drag radials is that yes that do grip amazing and will let you put down over 600whp with out issues but the issue is that you can no longer take turns fast anymore. It makes your car a straight line car only. Personally I keep the drag radials for drag racing and I much prefer a super wide 295to 315 extreme performance tire for street driving even though the straight line grip is much less than a 255or275 drag radial.
Given the OP is doing an LS swap, I'm guessing turning fast is probably not high on the priority list and MT's fit the bill nicely (otherwise Hoosiers are an option though expensive). There's really not much point in x HP if you don't have the tire to put down the power properly. With the LS1's low end torque traction will have an even higher priority. C5 came with a 295 rear so that'd be bare minimum, probably wider with more power from cams/head/etc. Not saying wide street tires are nice, just thinking that if you're adding a bunch of power then have the appropriate tire compound then worry about width. More options for a 255 radial than a super wide street tire (for 17" anyway).

With a properly executed fender flare and wheel offset, the 315/35/17 R888 is what id go with personally. They are the same overall diameter as the 275/40 for a little more gear to help spread out all that LS trq with a little more sidewall vs 18's to help strait line traction. Great compound for dry traction, and handling integrity for the car and with the width to back it up. These tires are also quite affordable at $225 vs an 18" counterpart. Its a clear top choice.

Both rice and junky had their RPF1's cut and widened. They don't make a 17x11.
