Default Experience with "Warranty replacement" on tires?

Has anyone ever delt with getting a tire replaced with either of these places?

I'm currently looking at picking up some Hankook V12 EVOs for my S and both places offer this when you order. With Discount its an option you pay for but with Tire Rack it says its a manufacturer warranty. Both places come out to be about the same price shipped so thats not really the issue.

So has anyone ever had to deal with it? How did it go?

Just trying to see if its justifiable to save $50-$60 off the bottom line on getting them from a local installer or to buy online and have them installed here.

here's the scenarios:

A. Order from Discount tire direct/Tire Rack.

Cost: $486.00 total shipped for tires with road hazard
+ $50 for install at a local dealer.
Total: $536

B. Order from local tire co

Total cost: $590 out the door includes rotation(dont need that) and road hazard.

The main concern is, what happens if my tire gets fubared? What will be easier?

I've bought tires many, many times from Tire Rack, but I've never encountered a problem with them, but I've also never bought their road hazard protection.

Tire Rack has really good service, I'd imagine they'd send you to an authorized shop to get the warranty handled, just like Discount or any of the others do.

my local Big O price matches Tirerack, which brings the overall cost down as well as ease of replacements. Then again, I've never warrantied a tire before... can't comment on its ease.

I think every tire my dad, my brother, or myself has ordered in the past few years (short of me buying local wheels and tires) was from them. I've had nothing but terrific experience, and I would gladly put trust in their warranty program, even though I've never taken advantage of it.

For road hazard you get a local shop to determine if the tire needs the replacement. Shop contacts the road hazard program administrator. The program reimburses you for up to the amount you paid Tire Rack for the tire. In my case, the replacement cost more than what I paid Tire Rack originally so I had to pay a bit out of pocket in the end.

I haven't had to deal with warranty but I suspect it's similar.

there are like 24 discount tire co's in florida, which is the same co as discount tire direct... we offer whats called a certificate which covers you for a free replacement for any thing but tire wear....covers you for the life of a tire and as long as you have it replaced at any discount tire we dont charge you install or taxes for the new tire
