Default a dumb aesthetic wheel question for you guys...

Can someone tell me why so many high end wheels for our car have the *extra* holes in the hub? I'm thinking of Volk wheels in particular - I like some of them but don't really care for that multi-hole look.

Being *ahem* a little older - they remind me of the "universal" wheels that had a few different bolt patterns drilled in them.

Thanks in advance

I agree. I never liked the extra hole look. I like a number of the wheels I have seen, but it too struck me as strange.

The multiple holes are so the same wheel will fit cars with different bolt patterns.

I'm not sure why Volk does that on some wheels and not others. The extra holes tend to de-emphasize the 5 individual lugs. If the extra holes weren't there the CE28 would look like this:

I understand the fits more then on lug pattern, but others are (Like the pics below) have the holes and they are clearly not for lugs.

Stratocaster - (great name, btw )

That is the exact picture that prompted my question. I like that wheel and the LE28 - but don't care for the extra holes.

The other thing is that we are talking about wheels that may *only* fit S2000s ie the +63 offsets in the rear.

After looking at the Rays website I see that I'm wrong. The non functional holes are on every set of Gram Lights pictured.

So now I'm gonna say the holes are there for weight savings
