You will find that you will buy two sets of rear tires to one set of front tires. Most people get around 12,000 or so for the rear tires and twice that for the fronts.

The rear tires on my car wear out faster than the fronts. Also note that the right rear tire wears out slightly faster than the left rear.

the OEM rears that came on my 00' were unsafe for wet by 10,000 miles -- although the fronts were still OK at that point, I replaced them all with 03's ... the 03' rears wear much beter than the OEM 02's
Keep you eyes gluded on the rears and don't chance it -- replace em' if they are worn

I was told at 5000 miles that it was time to replace my front tires. Instead I got it aligned and made it to 11,000 before getting a new set. Most of my driving is done in the twisties in the mountains, so the fronts get a better workout.

I have a motorcycle that wears rear tires out in 2500 to 3500 miles and fronts every 6000. Getting 11,000 from a set of tires on the car seems reasonable compared to that.

I'm willing to pay the price for performance. Besides, at the rate I've been putting miles on my S2000, a new set of tires every 2-3 years isn't that bad.

My OEM rears lasted 15k on stock alignment. My original fronts are still going strong.

My stock rears lasted about 16k mi. Fronts are still good.
My guess is that the fronts will last almost twice as long as the rears.

My stock rears have a little over 10k on them and they look shot...maybe a couple of millimeters left to the wear bars, whereas the fronts hardly look worn at all! I'm getting serious hydroplaning in the rear on wet roads so I'll be replacing them soon. That slipping of the rear is a little scary (if it's not intentional) when you're used to the car sticking to the road like glue!!!

S-02s or S-03s in the rear, or S-03s all around...now that's the question. (kinda hate to pitch the fronts, they look so new. )
