Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Hey guys, ive searched already, couldnt find much. Unless you can find something for me.
But anyway, i was wondering if anyone had any reviews on these dunlop tires.
Now ive read a bunch already on tirerack. it seems alot of ppl like them over the RE-01R's (which are the tires i was planning to get).
I just found out they were a bit cheaper then the bridgestones as well.
Im planning to get the sizes :
205/55/16
225/50/16
I see that there is also a 205/50/16. Should i get that instead for the fronts?!?!
Thanks in advance

I have driven them in a test head to head and they are comparable to the RE-01R. I would not say are better I would say they are equal and they are less money.
If I can help let me know. I do have them in stock.

Jim -- What's your input on the Direzza ~vs~ Yokohama S-drives?
I have put 5k on my Star Specs, and in the rear, i'll be lucky to get 15k out of them. They are one of the most affordable summer performance tires that I know of. Acording to Jim they compare to the RE010r, but cost ALOT less.

These just arrived for me today [ordered from tirerack yesterday and got them today, these guys are great !!!!] , I am so exited to put these on especially since MY01 came with some 500 tread wear Yoko Avid V4S all season tires (I think its going to be night and day for me).
I researched a lot before buying a 225/50/16 in the rear due to the 8.5'' Tread Width of the original OEM S-02s, and I must say I was correct, these tires are really really wide for a 225 mm tire, and although I cannot definitively say [see below why] the exact value of the tread width on these, they are WIDE ....and my best guess would be these are close to 8.5'' or may be more ...
TIRERACK.COMs definition
[The tread width is the distance between the outer edge and the inner edge of the tread of a new tire. However today's radial tires often feature tread designs that incorporate rounded shoulders and there is no industry standard pertaining to "how much" of the rounded shoulders should be included in the tread width measurement]
Anyway I will be putting these on hopefully tomorrow and I don't think I need to share anything about how well they perform as they seem to be one of the stickiest street legal tire on the market today.
What is also perplexing is that Dunlop have not published the tread width for the Z1 Star Specs, but they do have these numbers for the DZ101 ()
[Tire]---------------[Approved Rim Width]--------------[Tread Width]
DZ101-------------------- 6-8 ---------------------------------8.2''
Z1 Star Spec ------------ 7-9 ---------------------------------????
The Approved Rim Width seems to indicate that the 225/50/16 Z1 Star Spec Tread Width is definitely more than 8.2''
Anyway I just wanted to put out this information I found, with the hope that this might expand/open up the options for choosing rear tire for AP1 owners on stock rims, especially considering how painful it is not to have many options in 245/45/16.

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TREAD WIDTH NUMBERS! For one thing, the published "tread width" figures will NOT necessarily jibe with actual contact patch area. For another, even if they did, greater contact patch area does NOT necessarily mean greater grip.
The necessisty of having 245 section width tires on the back end of AP1's has been greatly overstated. If you limit yourself to 245/45-16 sizes, you are eliminating the best tires available for the AP1 from consieration.
