Default Different brand front and rear tires ok?

Hi,

I'm about to sell my car soon within a few weeks.

Tread wear on my front tires are good, but my rears are dangerously bald.

So I was wondering if I kept my fronts and got 2 new rears, would the new buyer care much?

Or should I just replace all 4 with matching brands.

Thx!

If the fronts are good, I wouldn't replace them, but as a buyer, I would like to see that the new rears match for brand and model.

I look for matching tires when I buy a used vehicle. May not be a deal breaker, but i'm picky about tires.

If you can find the same brand/model for the rears that are on the front....then only do the rears. Otherwise I'd replace all 4.

Because if you get grippier tires for the back than are on the front....probably want to understeer. Opposite if you get rears that don't grip as well as the front...it will probably oversteer.

My S2000 came with unmatched front a rears.

Really made the car feel unrefined. I would imagine it will depend on the type of shopper that is looking at your S.

For the typical car buyer, I doubt they'd even notice unless the tires were a different color. ...and even then, half of them probably wouldn't.

...but for someone that knows what they are looking for, it might affect their decision.

I bought mine knowing that tires were in the near future.

Tell the buyer your adding two hundred dollars cash with the car so he can add that to the price of new tires of his choice.

^^^ Actually, this is pretty good advice. I would give myself a little wiggle room in the asking price, so if someone complains about it needing tires, you can drop the price and make them feel good about it.

I would also look for 4 matching tires when buying. It implies the owner isn't a cheapskate on maintenance, only wanting to put money in it when absolutely needed.
