Cooper Tire Zeon 2XS
Hi,
I was on edgeracing.com and came across this tire. I was wondering if anybody owns or has owned this tire for their S?
What do you guys think? What does it compare to as far as performance?

Had them on my Porsche 924S. Great tire, for the money. Quality very good and the sidewall had a nice rim protector. They were smooth, quiet and had pretty good stick on the street. Did not have a chance to try them on an autocross or at the track, because I sold the car to buy the S2000.
I don't need summer tires yet, my S-02 are in good shape. S-02 are fantastic, but $$$. But I am thinking about the Coopers as possible future replacements or the Hankook RS-2's.

I was thinking about the RS2's myself but the sidewall strength and wear rate was of concern to me. I actually just ordered a set of Azenis RT615's but I don't suspect that these tires will last very long. Just wondering if the Coopers are a solid performer at a solid price?

The Coopers actually use English technology. Avon, I believe is the name of the company. We have a set (under the Mastercraft brand) on a Mercedes SL and its a smooth riding tire. Of course, an SL doesn't handle like a S2000.

So they can hold their own? I read something where Cooper tire admitted that they do not have the technology to develop a tire to compete with today's brands. They stated that they have purchased new machinery??? and they hope to be one of the leading tire manufacturers within the next three years. I don't know how long ago this was stated but it made me wonder about their current tire lines. Anybody with first hand experience with their S or any other performance vehicle?

I had these on my AP1 when I first got it a couple of years ago (used '02). After about 10 months, two of the tires began losing air with no apparent damage (they were new tires when I got the car).
I decided to go with RE750s as a replacement. I found the Zeons to be quieter than the RE750s with similar handling characteristics in most situations (i.e., ok in the rain, decent dry grip). The one issue I noticed with the Zeons was that they became very slippery and unpredictable when the temperature dropped below 50 degrees (even on dry pavement).
I don't know if the air-loss issue I had with the Zeons was my fault or not, but I am more comfortable driving on a more popular tire with a larger support network.

The more popular tire costs twice as much so I was trying to figure out if the Zeon would be a cost effective alternative. What good is a tire though if it can't hold air?

I have a set of these on AP1 wheels that I use as winter tires they perfom better than the RE50s in cold and wet weather.
They where on the wheels I purchased. If I were buying all season tires I would probably go with the P-zero.

I am in Cali and am personally not concerned with cold or wet weather too much. I am more so concerned with dry traction and how they compare to some of the more popular tires. Thanks for the info though.
