Continental, ExtremeContact SPORT tire review -with Motec Data (MotoIQ)

I replaced my out going PSS with these and couldn't be happier. They ride so well and they can perform when you need them to, I haven't tried the PSS4 but I love these conti. They are actually my first conti set ever, before the PSS I had BFG Sport comp, these are better then the PSS and the BFG for sure!

I have been running these tires for about 3K miles now. Mine are on BBS JDM 16 inch wheels. Stock sizes. I like them a lot. I would recommend them. I drive 100% on the street - back country roads in rural Vermont is most of what I do. After a short break in these perform extremely well in wet and dry for the kind of driving I am doing. In the past I have run S02, S04 and some good all seasons. I like this set up the best on my ap1 for my type of driving. The only other tire I might consider trying is the Firestone.

After 3-4 years of autocrossing on stock Honda spec S02s and a few years of storing the S2000, I finally had to toss out the old tires and find new ones. Went with these Conti ExtremeContact Sports in the stock sizes - knowing that the rear tread width would be less than the OEM S02 (in addition to having more tread voids with the Contis. The Contis definitely have more rounded shoulders compared to the S02s but even aside from that, the fronts are similar in tread width while the rear S02s have almost an inch more tread width!
So, how are the Conties on the street and in autocross? After 500 street miles, my conclusion is the Contis seem to be slightly quieter than the S02s but the difference is likely not noticeable since the S2000 is not a quiet car to begin with even with the top up. The ride is slightly more compliant with the Contis and the steering response is slightly slower from the softer sidewalls.
At the autocross, the grip is similar - which says a lot about the S02 (though I suspect that's from the S02 putting more rubber on the ground with a higher tread to void ratio). The biggest noticeable difference was that the Contis were much more neutral in handling at the limit given the narrower rears (closer F/R ratio). Gone is the more understeering setup at the limit of the S02s. The Contis were also more playful at the limit compared to the sharper/edgier limits of the S02s.
My summary conclusion is the Contis are an excellent compromise for the street in terms of the more gradual limit and the wet weather abilities (which the S02s had very little of). For the occasional autocross - the Contis are likely slightly slower but you'll have more fun balancing the car on the edge and probably look better than you actually are with the ease of catching oversteer. Ideally, I would love a more modern rubber compound with Conti level wet weather ability with the handling/sidewall characteristics of the Honda spec S02 with a F/R tread with ratio closer to that of the Contis.. Maybe the Bridgestone S007?

the 225/50 S02 measured essentially at a 245 tread width - 9.2 inches with an 8.5 inch contact patch, I believe? The S02's for sale now (the Porsche spec) are like 8.5 inches with just under an 8 inch contact patch. Give or take. Other than being a 20 year old compound, that 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch wont matter that much in normal street driving. That's why the Re11 was a great tire, it gave you the correct stagger ratio with a 204/245 tire combo.
Anyway, i'm curious to see this S007a compound and how it stacks up with other MSP and ESP tires.
