This is breaking news?!

285's are still for kids 17/11.5" +63 295's are proper on a stock body S. Sorry had to do it

Good compound wider tires are not just for high hp strait line traction, these will give you better cornering grip and braking. Yes, more rubber on the ground in the S is better. I can attest to a much improved "planted" car as well, in an otherwise nervous handling ride with average size tires. I contribute a wider wheel offset in combination to the rubber size as the reason for this improvement.

If you want a true comparison- compare it to a tire other than a star spec. They run wide, they are closer to a 255 than a 245. I am running a 265 star spec on mine and it looks a decent amount larger so a 285 must be really nice. What offset are you running? +70-75?
Good point, we did notice the Star Specs being both wider and a lot more tire dust Running +74 in the rear.

If you're running R comps, you can get 285s, but I've read about people having trouble getting 285 R-comps up to temperature with the S2000's weight and power level.

Give me an RS-3 or Star Spec in 285 and now we're talking!
Is the Bridgestone SO4's a crappier tire than the Dunlop? We love Dunlops too but hate how soft they are for a daily driver.

Well this car has a SOS supercharger setup and can easily break the 245 tires loose so hoping the 285's will give a bit more grip. Hoping to hit 380+ rwhp once we get it back to the tuner. Fronts are 225/40/18's on a 8" rim so very conservative.
If it's a daily driver and you are okay running hard tires, then why chase max grip by spending money on heavier wide wheels? Again, if there is a grip problem, run tires that aren't using decade-old compounds. Then worry about width. I'd still maintain you're going to have more grip on a good 255 tire than an ancient 285 design.

If you're hardparking it, then I understand why you'd want to go wide regardless of tire.

Not the greatest picture but this is with virtually no camber as you can see:

So you got 285/40/R18 in the rear? This is a custom rim correct? What camber do you have in the rear?

^Yes it's a 18x10.5" custom wheel with a very high offset!

We are running Endless Zeal coilovers with no fender modifications besides the rear tab re-located.

here's a better shot with the full car:
