Default Cannot find 225/45/16 for '03 rears in all season

Jim at Tire Rack no longer has the Bridgesstone RE970AS for the rears in 245/45/16 (all season) on my '03. Can someone please suggest another source or another tire!!! I'm currently in So. California. (I need 205/55/16's for the front, but that's easy. I've clearly decided all season is the best tire for me.)

Alternatively, how much is the handling changed with the narrower rear tires on dry, wet, and light snow?

Is there a particular reason you want 245/45/16 rear instead of 225/50/16 rear? You'll have a bit more selection with the 225/50 series.

The ride quality typically is less with a 45 series tire than a 50, however, it shouldn't be anything that you will notice.

Forget about 245/45-16 for street tires. The best tires are not available in this size, 225/50-16 is it. Handling is going to be very similar, arguably better in downpour conditions or snow. Ultimate warm-weather dry grip would be a smidge better with 245s, all else equal, but nothing you'd notice in real world street conditions.

Forget stickie, 225/50-16 = totally fine.

245/45/16 has the same contact patch as the original S02 tire has, despite what Bridgestone put on the OEM tires. (See on of the stickies on this forum.) My concern is not ride quality but handling at the limit.

I have run my car with Hankook summer tires after the S02's wore out and have been happy with the handling and ride (if not the wear). I'm moving and want an all-season tire now.

I don't want to spend the money on larger wheels and am forced at this point to buy rears in 225/50 R 16. My question is what brand/model of tires people like best in this size combination. Jim suggests Conti's are liked a lot by S2K owners. Anything else? Kumho's look to be a bargain. How do they work?

Conti DW is a great tire for southern California winters/all season. Some would argue that the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs are also good (for Socal) in both wet and dry (again, for Socal). Kuhmos are fine. You can also explore Hankook V12s.

Can someone give me an opinion on Kumho Esta's, please? (Ratings on Tire Rack are high.) BTW, I'm headed for New Mexico in a couple of weeks, permanently, so occasional snow is something I will need to deal with as well as cold weather.

I'm not a fan of Ecstas.

If snow, I recommend Conti DWS.

The 245/45R16 tires have been discontinued. The rear tires should be the 225/50R16. If it is an all season tire you are looking for the DWS is the best in the snow and the RE970AS from Bridgestone is the best all around that we have tested.
If I can help let me know.
