Default Bridgestone RE01-R

I'm running some cheapo 225/45/17 and 255/40/17 in the rear currently. I have my camber set so the tires fill out the fenders and not rub.

im thinking of switching to the RE01-R but in a 215/45/17 and a 245/40/17. given the performance nature of these tires...do they run a little wider..comparable to the cheapo tires so I dont have to mess with my camber? essentially..will they fill out the fenders similarly to the cheapo tires?

They've been discontinued. The RE-11 is the replacement. Honestly, I've run both and for $100 less each, I'd get the Dunlop Star Specs

They're as good on track, wear like iron and seem to do alright in the rain. They don't grip as well as an RA-1 but, are SO much better than the Azenis RT-615. I consider them as close to the RE01-R as you can get for alot less.

Of course the Star Specs don't grip like an RA-1, the RA-1 is an R-compound tire.

I loved the RE-01Rs that I've been through, but as QuadraJet said, they've been replaced by the RE-11, which has gotten very good reviews as well.

I've tracked both the RE-01R and the Star Specs and can say the Star Specs are definitely a good buy for the money. The Star Specs seem to have a higher slip angle than the RE-01Rs, the car wanted to be at a higher yaw angle through the turns to reach the same grip level as the Bridgestones.

The RA-1 with a tread wear of 100 is one of those middle of the road tires. Not quite a track only R like the V710's, or hoosiers (tread wear of 30-40), not quite a street tire. It's the same as the R888 or NT01. I was bookending the tires. The RA-1 is about as good a tires as you want on the street. The star spec is pretty close to the RA-1s on track. In my WRX using star specs, I regularly pass E36/E46 M3's running RA-1's. So, for me, the star spec is a good track tire. Unlike the RT-615, the star spec doesn't go away 1/2 way through the session. You can spend $240+ for a street tire or spend $120-$140 for the star specs. I think you'd be pretty happy with the star specs.

I hear the new Kuhmo Exta XS is pretty good too but, I haven't driven on them. I have driven on all the other tires I mentioned.

I've tracked RA-1's as well, they were pretty nice tires. Noticeably more grip than the RE-01R or Star Specs, the increase in braking power was great. I don't think I'd waste something like that on the street though. From what I read from RA-1 owners, they're supposed to be pretty good on longevity as well.

Having run both RA1s and T1Rs, I think the Star Specs are a great tire in terms of performance for the dollar. Not as good as the RA1 but noticeably better than the T1R. Dial in some negative camber and get ready for some fun.

I can't bring myself to spend the extra $ for the RE-11s as good as they are.

I was recently running the 255/40-17 RE-01Rs on lmy owered S2000 with -2.25 camber in the rear and never rubbed. Fenders untouched.

Agreed, for non-competitive purposes, the Dunlops are fine, especially when you don't have corporate sponsorship bucks funding your track day.
